Hubert Nkurayija leads FERWACY presidential candidates
The Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) has officially released the list of approved candidates who will contest in the federation’s elections scheduled for May 31, 2026, marking a new chapter for cycling governance in Rwanda.
Two candidates have been cleared to run for the presidency of the federation.
Nkurayija Ishimwe Jean Hubert, former Coordinator of Tour du Rwanda 2026 and Nosisi Gahitsi Toussaint Paul, who previously served as Secretary General of FERWACY.
According to the federation, Nosisi Gahitsi was endorsed by Les Amis Sportifs de Rwamagana, while Nkurayija Ishimwe Jean Hubert was endorsed by Bugesera Cycling Team.
The announcement was made on Thursday, May 22, 2026, as FERWACY published the provisional list of candidates seeking leadership positions within the federation and its different commissions ahead of the elective assembly.
Nkurayija Ishimwe Jean Hubert is regarded as one of the prominent figures in Rwanda’s cycling administration after playing an important role in organizing the 2026 edition of Tour du Rwanda, the country’s biggest international cycling competition.
His experience in sports management and event coordination has positioned him among candidates expected to influence the future direction of cycling development in Rwanda.
Observers believe his involvement in managing major cycling events could bring administrative continuity and further strengthen Rwanda’s growing reputation as one of Africa’s leading cycling nations.
Meanwhile, former FERWACY Secretary General Nosisi Gahitsi Toussaint Paul is also considered an experienced sports administrator with deep knowledge of the federation’s internal operations and cycling governance structures.
The elections will also feature contests for other executive positions within the federation.
For the position of First Vice President, candidates include Makuza Clèment was endorsed by Les Amis Sportifs, and Mpatswenumugabo Jean Bosco was endorsed by CCA.
For the Second Vice President role, Niyonzima Gildas from Nyabihu Cycling Team will compete against Umuhoza Ange Belyse, who was endorsed by Kayonza Young Stars Cycling Team.
Ruyonza Arlette, who currently serves as FERWACY Secretary General, is the sole candidate seeking re-election for the same position after being nominated by Benediction Cycling Club.
Five candidates are contesting for advisory committee positions.
These include Nsengumuremyi Florent, formerly with KCC, Mupenzi Christophe Rène from Karongi Vision Sport Center, Karambizi Rabbin Hamim from Cine Elmay Club, Ntembe Jean Bosco from Fly Cycling Club and Nsengiyumva Jean Claude from CCA.
For the auditor position, Bizimana Albert was endorsed by Muhazi Cycling Generation, is the only declared candidate, while no candidate has yet registered for the treasurer role.
Notably absent from the candidates’ list is Ndayishimiye Samson, who has served as FERWACY president since November 2023.
FERWACY stated that the final list of approved candidates will be published on May 23, ahead of the elections set to take place on May 31, 2026.
Rwanda cycling has continued to grow significantly in recent years, largely driven by the international success of Tour du Rwanda and increasing investment in local cycling talent development.
