CanalBox Rwanda launches high-speed fibre internet services in Musanze
CanalBox Rwanda has officially launched its high-speed fibre internet services in Musanze District, Northern Province.
The official inauguration, held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, was attended by Northern Province Governor Maurice Mugabowagahunde, Musanze District Vice Mayor Clarisse Uwanyirigira, CanalBox Rwanda Chief Executive Aimé Abizera, officials from the Ministry of ICT and Innovation (MINICT), the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA), and representatives from the private sector.
The launch extends CanalBox’s footprint beyond Kigali and Rubavu, bringing affordable fibre internet to one of Rwanda’s fastest-growing urban centres.
The company says the expansion forms part of its long-term ambition to provide reliable, high-speed internet services across all regions of the country.
Governor Mugabowagahunde welcomed the investment, saying improved connectivity would strengthen tourism, education, innovation and business development in the Northern Province.
“This internet service comes as an important solution that supports our vision for Musanze District and the Northern Province”, he said.
“We want this region to become a leading tourism destination, and reliable internet will greatly benefit hotels, businesses and other service providers. Our schools will also benefit, giving students better access to digital learning and helping them develop the technological skills needed in today's world”, he added
The arrival of CanalBox has already begun creating opportunities for young innovators in Musanze.
Local entrepreneurs are using the new high-speed connection to develop artificial intelligence (AI) applications, robotics projects and coding programmes, demonstrating the growing demand for advanced digital infrastructure outside Rwanda’s capital.
As part of its expansion, CanalBox Rwanda has partnered with WithinTech Rwanda, a technology company founded by Aline Niyomwugeri, to organize robotics, coding and artificial intelligence boot camps aimed at equipping young people with practical digital skills.
CanalBox says customers can subscribe to one of two monthly fibre packages.
The Start package costs Rwf25,000 and provides download speeds of up to 50 Mbps, while the PREMIUM package is priced at Rwf40,000 per month and offers speeds of up to 200 Mbps.
Customers can purchase subscriptions through Canal+ agents, MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money, the CanalBox USSD platform (*860#), the company's website, and IremboPlus.
Commercial Director Edmond Byiringiro, who oversees sales, marketing and customer experience, assured customers that the company has invested in modern infrastructure capable of delivering stable, high-speed connectivity without compromising performance.
CanalBox is a broadband service operated by Canal+ Telecom, part of the Canal+ Group, one of Africa’s leading telecommunications and media companies.
The fibre internet provider now operates in nine African countries: Rwanda, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo-Brazzaville, Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Togo and Nigeria.
CanalBox officially entered the Rwandan market in 2020, initially launching services in Kigali before expanding to Rubavu and now Musanze.
The company has stated that additional cities will be connected as its national fibre rollout continues.
