Nkurayija Hubert elected new FERWACY boss for four-year term
Nkurayija Ishimwe Jean Hubert has been elected President of the Rwanda Cycling Federation, FERWACY, for a four-year mandate following elections held during an Extraordinary General Assembly on Sunday, 31 May 2026.
The election brought together delegates who voted on the new executive committee tasked with steering the development of cycling in Rwanda and strengthening the country’s position in international cycling.
The 35 old-man who was the sole candidate for the presidency, was elected with 10 out of 11 votes cast, succeeding Ndayishimiye Samson, who had been serving in an interim to complete the mandate of the outgoing leadership led previously by Murenzi Abdallah since 2023.
Following his election, Nkurayija Ishimwe is expected to lead a renewed agenda focused on expanding grassroots cycling programs, improving athlete development pathways, and enhancing the organization of major cycling events, including preparations for upcoming editions of the Tour du Rwanda.
Makuza Clément was elected First Vice President with 9 out of 11 votes, while Umuhoza Ange Belyse secured the position of Second Vice President with 8 out of 11 votes.
Ruyonza Arlette retained her position as Secretary General after a unanimous vote of 11 out of 11, reflecting continued confidence in her leadership within the federation.
Katabarwa Daniel was also re-elected as Treasurer with a perfect score of 11 out of 11, while Bizimana Albert was elected as Auditor.
For the advisory positions, two candidates out of four were elected.
Karambizi Rabini-Hamim, an incumbent, secured 9 votes, and Nsengiyumva Jean Claude obtained 7 votes, defeating Mupenzi Christophe René and Ntembe Jean Bosco.
Prior to his election, Nkurayija Ishimwe Jean Hubert served as the Coordinator of Tour du Rwanda, a role he assumed in December 2025, succeeding Kamuzinzi Freddy upon the expiry of his contract.
He was involved in the operational planning and coordination of one of Africa’s most prestigious cycling races, contributing to its continued growth in international recognition and organizational standards.
His experience within cycling administration is expected to play a key role in guiding FERWACY through its next phase of development, particularly as Rwanda positions itself as a leading cycling nation on the African continent.
The newly elected executive committee assumes office at a time when Rwandan cycling continues to gain momentum, both competitively and organizationally.
Key priorities are expected to include athlete performance enhancement, infrastructure development, international partnerships, and the successful delivery of flagship events such as the Tour du Rwanda 2027, scheduled for late February.
The federation expressed optimism that the new leadership will build on previous achievements and further elevate Rwanda’s status in global cycling.
