Rwanda outclass Malawi by 66 runs in Kwibuka Women’s T20I 2026
After opening their campaign with a narrow three-wicket defeat to Zimbabwe HPC, hosts Rwanda bounced back impressively on Day Two, crushing Malawi by 66 runs in the Kwibuka Women’s T20I Tournament 2026.
At the Gahanga Main Oval, Malawi won the toss and chose to field first, applying early pressure on Rwanda through a disciplined and well-executed bowling display.
Despite Malawi’s disciplined efforts in the field, Rwanda’s batters delivered a commanding performance, amassing an imposing 174 for 6 from their 20 overs.
The Rwandan batters showed composure and intent throughout the innings, building crucial partnerships and accelerating effectively during the latter stages to set Malawi a challenging target of 175 runs for victory.
Malawi found it difficult to keep pace with the required run rate as Rwanda’s disciplined bowling attack tightened its grip on the contest.
Maintaining pressure throughout the innings, Rwanda's bowlers restricted scoring opportunities and held Malawi to 108/5 in 20 overs, sealing a comprehensive 66-run victory.
The result further strengthens Rwanda’s position in the tournament and provides valuable momentum ahead of their showdown against Nigeria tomorrow.
Elsewhere, Brazil defeated Nigeria by seven wickets in another competitive encounter.
Nigeria, batting first, posted 111/6 from their 20 overs.
Brazil’s chase was measured and efficient, reaching the target in 18.2 overs while losing only three wickets to complete a convincing seven-wicket win.
In the third match of the day, Nigeria bounced back strongly to defeat Zimbabwe HPC by seven wickets.
Zimbabwe HPC were bowled out for 107 in 19 overs, with Nigeria’s bowlers producing a disciplined performance.
Nigeria then successfully chased down the target, reaching 108/3 in 17.4 overs to record their first victory of the tournament.
The Kwibuka Women’s T20I Tournament, one of Africa’s premier women’s cricket events, continues to showcase emerging talent and strengthen international competition while honoring the memory of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
