PHOT0S: Ingenzi Heroes crowned Elite Women’s T20 League 2026 champions
Ingenzi Heroes were crowned back to back Elite Women’s T20 League 2026 champions after rain forced the final against Ingabo Knights to be abandoned.
The highly anticipated final began with Ingenzi Heroes winning the toss.
They elected to bat first, hoping to set a competitive total in the T20 showdown.
However, Ingabo Knights delivered an impressive bowling performance from the outset, applying pressure and preventing Ingenzi Heroes from scoring freely.
Throughout the innings, Ingabo Knights’ bowlers maintained tight lines and disciplined fielding, which limited the batting side’s momentum.
By the time the innings approached its conclusion, the match had become a tense contest between bat and ball.
Ingenzi Heroes had reached 95 runs for the loss of six wickets in 19.4 overs when the weather suddenly turned.
Heavy rain began to pour down, forcing the players off the field with only two balls remaining in the first innings.
The interruption soon became prolonged as the rain intensified, leaving officials with no option but to halt the match.
Despite efforts to wait for conditions to improve, the rain continued, making it impossible to resume play.
As a result, the final was officially abandoned due to rain, preventing Ingabo Knights from beginning their chase.
According to the competition regulations, the championship was awarded based on the league standings after the final could not be completed.
Ingenzi Heroes were therefore declared the Elite Women’s T20 League 2026 champions, having finished at the top of the table with 10 points.
Ingabo Knights, who reached the final but trailed in the standings, ended the tournament in second place with 7 points.
The title triumph marks a successful title defense for Ingenzi Heroes, who were also the champions in the previous season.
Their consistency throughout the tournament proved decisive, as strong performances across the league phase placed them in the leading position before the final.
Earlier in the day, the third-place playoff also delivered an entertaining contest.
Imena Heroes secured the bronze medal after defeating Amasimbi Hawks by 26 runs.
Batting first, Imena Heroes posted a total of 87 runs for eight wickets in their 20 overs.
Although the total was modest, their bowlers produced a disciplined display to defend the score successfully.
Amasimbi Hawks struggled during their chase and were eventually bowled out for 61 runs in 15.4 overs, handing Imena Heroes a comfortable victory.
The tournament once again highlighted the growing competitiveness of women’s cricket, with teams displaying strong bowling units, determined batting efforts, and improving tactical awareness.
Despite the unfortunate rain interruption in the final, the Elite Women’s T20 League 2026 showcased exciting cricket and reaffirmed Ingenzi Heroes’ status as one of the dominant teams in the competition.
