Rwanda dominates group phase as CAVB Championship enters decisive knockout stage

The group phase of the CAVB Men’s Club Championship came to a dramatic and entertaining conclusion, with intense battles across all pools as teams fought for places in the Round of 16.

For Rwanda, the group phase has been particularly encouraging, as the championship heads into its decisive phase.

All four representatives—APR, Police, Kepler and REG—have successfully sealed their places in the Round of 16, underlining the country’s growing strength in continental volleyball.

APR will look to quickly recover from their final-day loss and rediscover the form that saw them win four straight matches.

Kepler and Police’s consistency and home support make them dangerous opponents, while REG’s solid performances suggest they have the discipline to challenge stronger sides.

Match Day Six proved decisive, particularly for sides still chasing qualification.

In Group A, Rwanda’s APR Volleyball Club had already secured a knockout berth heading into their final game.

However, expectations remained high for the hosts playing in front of their home fans at the BK Arena.

APR, who had won their opening four matches, suffered a setback after falling 3-0 to Egypt’s Petrojet.

The defeat saw APR drop to third place in the standings, while Uganda’s Nemostars Volleyball Club climbed to the top following a dominant 3-0 win over Cameroon’s Litto Team.

Nigeria Customs also secured progression with a convincing straight-sets victory, leaving Litto Team and Zimbabwe’s Black Rhinos eliminated.

Group B saw another Egyptian powerhouse, Al Ahly Volleyball Club, live up to expectations by finishing top with maximum points.

They wrapped up their campaign with a 3-0 win over AS INJS of Côte d’Ivoire. Rwanda’s Kepler Volleyball Club impressed on home soil, defeating Kenya’s Equity Bank 3-1 to secure second place and a spot in the knockout phase.

Uganda’s Sport-S also advanced, while Cameroon Sports and AS INJS exited the competition.

In Group C, Rwanda’s Police Volleyball Club maintained their unbeaten run with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Kenya Ports Authority.

Faith Union Sports edged Ghana Army in another five-set battle, while Ethiopia’s Wolaitta claimed their first win against Tanzania Prisons.

Police topped the group, followed by Faith Union, Ghana Army, and KPA.

Group D belonged to Cameroon’s Port Autonome De Douala, who finished with maximum points after a dominant 3-0 win over Kenya’s GSU, dropping just one set throughout the group stage.

Rwanda Energy Group (Rwanda Energy Group Volleyball Club) secured second place with a straight-sets victory over Ghana’s Kalibi.

GSU and Kalibi also progressed, while Burundi’s Rukinzo and Atletico Clube do Mindelo exited despite Rukinzo ending on a winning note.
