Volleyball: RRA VC, Police crowned Climate Action Tournament champions (Photos)
RRA WVC and Police VC emerged as champions of the Climate Action Volleyball Tournament after securing hard-fought victories in their respective finals.
Organized by the Rwanda Volleyball Federation in partnership with the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA), the competition was part of efforts to promote environmental awareness through sport.
The tournament featured some of Rwanda’s leading volleyball clubs and was hosted in Huye and Gisagara districts
In the men’s category, Police VC, REG VC, and Gisagara VC competed for top honors, while the women’s competition featured RRA WVC, Police WVC, and RP Huye.
The preliminary matches were played at Gisagara Gymnasium for the men’s competition and at the University of Rwanda’s Huye Campus for the women’s.
Following a series of competitive encounters, Police VC and REG VC advanced to the men’s final, while RRA WVC and Police WVC secured places in the women’s.
Both finals were played at the Gisagara Gymnasium in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
The women’s final provided an entertaining contest between two of Rwanda’s strongest volleyball teams.
RRA WVC started strongly, displaying excellent ball control, effective blocking, and consistent attacking play to claim the opening two sets 26-24 and 25-22.
With the title within reach, RRA needed just one more set to secure victory.
However, Police WVC responded impressively, raising the intensity of their defense while improving their service pressure and offensive efficiency.
Their determination paid off as they captured the third and fourth sets 25-15 and 25-23, forcing a decisive fifth-set tiebreak.
In the deciding set, RRA WVC regained composure and executed crucial points at key moments.
Their outstanding display allowed them to close out the match 15-11, sealing a dramatic 3-2 victory and the Climate Action Tournament title
The men’s final proved equally thrilling. REG VC established early control of the match, using powerful attacks and strong defensive coverage to win the opening two sets 25-19 and 25-18.
Facing a two-set deficit, Police VC mounted an impressive comeback.
The team showed resilience, improving their reception and transition play to claim the third set 25-23 before winning the fourth set 25-22 to level the contest at 2-2.
With the championship on the line, the match was decided in a fifth-set tiebreak.
Police VC maintained their momentum and held their nerve under pressure, winning the decisive set 15-11 to complete a remarkable comeback and secure a 3-2 victory.
For their achievements, both Police VC and RRA WVC were awarded the tournament trophies along with prize money of RWF 4 million each.
The runners-up Police WVC and REG VC each received RWF 3 million, while third-placed Gisagara VC and RP Huye were awarded RWF 1.5 million.
