Rwanda’s young Karatekas set for World Championships in Zambia

Three promising Rwandan karatekas are set to represent the country at the Kyokunshin Kenbukaikan World Championships, scheduled to take place in Lusaka, Zambia, from October 23 to 26, 2025.

The trio — Twagirumukiza Salvien (18), Ndayizeye Prince (17), and Irampaye Fred (14) — will compete under the Japan Karate Association Rwanda (JKA-Rwanda).

They will be coached by Rurangayire Guy Didier, who also serves as the association’s president.

The championship, which will be held for the first time, is organized by the Kyokunshin Kenbukan Martial Arts Alliance in collaboration with the Kyokunshin Africa Union.

It is expected to attract more than 500 participants from various countries, all gathering at the Mulungushi International Conference Center in Lusaka.

Competitions will take place across 14 categories, ranging from juniors aged 10–13 to adult divisions for men over 35 and women over 30.

Participants will compete in Kata, Kubodo for ages 16–35, and Kickboxing in different weight's.

According to JKA-Rwanda, this event offers an important opportunity for the young athletes to gain international exposure and experience.

The association has consistently invested in nurturing young karate talent and frequently sends competitors to international tournaments.

Earlier this year, JKA-Rwanda athletes participated in the North American Open / International Karate Tournament held in Las Vegas, USA, where they earned valuable experience against top competitors.

As the Zambian championship approaches, the young Rwandans are optimistic and determined to make their mark on the global stage, showcasing both their skill and the growth of karate in Rwanda.
