Police to face Al Ahly in CAVB Men’s Club Championship final
The 47th CAVB African Men’s Volleyball Club Championship has reached its climax in Kigali.
Hosted at BK Arena and Petit Stade Amahoro, the tournament has showcased top clubs, high-level competition, and growing enthusiasm for volleyball across Africa.
Friday night’s semifinals produced electrifying encounters, headlined by a historic achievement for Rwanda.
The Rwanda National Police Volleyball Club "Police VC" secured their place in the final after defeating domestic rivals Rwanda Energy Group Volleyball Club in a hard-fought 3-1 victory.
The match marked the first time a Rwandan club has reached the final of Africa’s premier men’s club volleyball competition, signaling the country’s rapid rise in the sport.
Police VC started strongly, taking the opening set 25-20 through disciplined defense and effective attacking play.
REG responded with determination, edging the second set 25-22 to level the contest.
However, Police regained control in the third and fourth sets (25-17, 25-21), thanks to their solid blocking and tactical organization.
Key players such as Frank Shyaka and Placide Sibomana anchored the defense at the net, frustrating REG’s attackers.
Meanwhile, Elphas Makuto delivered a standout performance, leading all scorers with an impressive 29 points and proving instrumental in securing the win.
The second semifinal featured an all-Egyptian clash between Al Ahly Volleyball Club and Petrojet Volleyball Club.
Al Ahly, widely regarded as the most successful club in African volleyball history, demonstrated their pedigree with a dominant straight-sets victory (25-20, 25-15, 25-16).
Their experience, composure, and depth were evident as they controlled the match from start to finish, allowing little room for Petrojet to mount a challenge.
The results have set up a highly anticipated final between Police VC and Al Ahly.
It will be a classic East versus North Africa showdown, with Police aiming to capture their first continental title on home soil, while Al Ahly seeks to further extend their legacy and add another trophy to their illustrious record and sealed the World Championship ticket.
Attention will also turn to the bronze medal match, where REG will face Petrojet in another Rwanda versus Egypt contest.
Both teams will be eager to finish strong and secure a podium place.
As the championship concludes, all eyes will be on BK Arena, where fans are expected to create an electric atmosphere.
With history on the line and continental glory at stake, the 2026 edition of the tournament is poised to deliver a memorable finale and further cement its status as Africa’s premier volleyball club competition.
