The 36-year-old Argentine, seeded No.1 in the tournament, battled back from a set down to defeat Italy’s Marco Cecchinato 4–6, 6–0, 6–3 in Sunday’s final, delivering an impressive performance on the clay courts in Rwanda’s capital.
The match began with Cecchinato, the eighth seed and former French Open semifinalist, showing strong form.
The Italian used his powerful serve and aggressive baseline play to take the opening set 6–4.
He fired seven aces during the match and initially controlled the rhythm of the game.
However, Trungelliti demonstrated his experience and resilience, refusing to let the match slip away.
After losing the first set, the Argentine dramatically shifted momentum in the second.
Trungelliti raised the intensity of his return game and began dominating the rallies.
He broke Cecchinato’s serve repeatedly and stormed through the set 6–0, completely turning the contest around.
His consistency from the baseline and ability to exploit his opponent’s errors proved decisive.
In the third and final set, Trungelliti maintained that momentum while Cecchinato struggled to recover.
The Argentine broke serve multiple times and controlled the pace of the match.
Overall, he broke his opponent’s serve six times during the final. After one hour and 57 minutes of play, Trungelliti sealed the victory to lift the trophy and celebrate another memorable success in Kigali.
