Rwandan teams impress on day two of African Club Championship in Kigali
Day Two of the CAVB Men’s Club Championship 2026 in Kigali delivered a thrilling spectacle of African volleyball, as teams battled fiercely across multiple fixtures.
The atmosphere inside Kigali’s venues was electric, with fans treated to high-intensity action from the very first whistle.
Rwandan sides, playing on home soil, made a strong statement early in the day, with both Kepler VC and Rwanda National Police showcasing their quality in convincing fashion.
Rwanda Police were the first among the host nation’s representatives to step onto the court, and they wasted no time asserting their dominance.
Facing Tanzania Prisons, Police displayed excellent coordination, disciplined defense, and sharp attacking play to secure a straight-sets victory.
Their commanding performance set the tone for the home teams and lifted the spirits of the local supporters.
Kepler Volleyball Club followed with an equally impressive display against Côte d’Ivoire’s AS INJS.
Backed by a passionate home crowd, Kepler controlled the tempo of the match from start to finish, combining powerful spikes with solid blocking to comfortably dispatch their opponents in straight sets.
However, it was not a perfect day for the host nation. Rwanda Energy Group (REG) faced a tough challenge against Cameroon’s Port Autonome de Douala and fell short despite moments of resilience.
REG struggled to contain their opponents’ attacking efficiency, leaving their fans disappointed after a hard-fought contest.
Elsewhere, Uganda’s Nemostars opened their campaign with a clinical 3-0 win over Egypt’s Petrojet, demonstrating tactical discipline and strong teamwork.
In another notable fixture, Sport-S made a memorable debut by defeating Kenya’s Equity Bank 3-1, signaling their intent to compete at the highest level.
Kenya’s General Service Unit (GSU) emerged as the country’s only winners of the day, cruising to a dominant straight-sets victory over Cape Verde’s Atletico.
Meanwhile, Kenya Ports Authority endured a difficult outing against Morocco’s FUS Rabat.
Despite showing determination to bounce back and level the match after losing the first set, they ultimately fell short against a more composed Moroccan side.
One of the standout matches of the day came from a thrilling five-set battle between Ghana’s Kaliba Sporting Club and Burundi’s Rukinzo.
In a contest filled with momentum swings and intense rallies, Kaliba narrowly edged the decisive set 15-13 to claim their first win of the tournament.
Ghana Army also added to the country’s success with a straight-sets victory over Ethiopia’s Wolaita.
Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly lived up to expectations with a commanding 3-0 win over Cameroon Sports, underlining their status as one of the tournament favorites.
The day concluded with an exciting West African derby, where Cameroon’s Litto Team defeated Nigeria Customs 3-1 in a competitive and entertaining clash.
The matchday three action continues this Friday at BK Arena and Petit Stade.
