Liverpool, Wolves unveil new tributes for Diogo Jota

The Portuguese forward will be forever immortalised at both clubs.

Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers have both continued their tributes to Diogo Jota following the Portugal forward’s tragic death earlier this month.

Jota and his brother, André Silva, lost their lives in a car accident in Spain, with Liverpool immortalising his impact on the club by retiring his No.20 shirt.

The weeks that have followed have brought countless tributes from across the world of football, with both Liverpool and former employers Wolves taking steps to remember Jota’s significance to their respective clubs.

Liverpool’s latest tribute saw Jota’s player profile moved to its own section on the club’s squad place. While no longer part of the forwards group, Jota now features in a section titled “Forever” alongside his famous No.20.

Wolves have subsequently inducted Jota into their Hall of Fame as they remember a player who played a crucial role in their return to the Premier League.

“There is such a feeling of sadness and disbelief around this awful tragedy that we wanted to make this tribute of our own as soon as we could,” John Richards, Wolves Hall of Fame chairman and club vice-president, said.

“Like everyone else, we’ve been stunned by events, and we remember what a wonderful player Diogo was for Wolves during that unforgettable promotion season under Nuno [Espírito Santo] and our early years back in the Premier League.

“His record of 44 goals at Wolves, and then 65 at Liverpool as a Premier League title winner, speaks volumes”.

So many fans across the game—especially in Portugal after he helped them win the Nations League this summer—are feeling his loss deeply. We saw no reason to delay this decision”.

“We hope it will bring a little comfort to those who were close to Diogo and André, and we trust Wolves supporters will understand that this gesture is made with real love and admiration, and also fully justified.”
