Mikel Arteta extends Arsenal contract until 2030

Mikel Arteta has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium until June 2030, extending the Spanish manager’s tenure after transforming the club into Premier League champions.

The 44-year-old had entered the final year of his previous agreement, but Arsenal have moved to secure the future of the manager who ended the club’s 22-year wait for a league title last season.

Arteta took charge in December 2019 after previously working as an assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

He inherited an Arsenal side struggling for consistency but gradually rebuilt the squad and restored the club to the top end of English football.

His progress culminated in the 2025-26 Premier League campaign, when Arsenal won their first league title since 2004.

The triumph came after three consecutive second-place finishes, underlining the gradual nature of Arteta’s rebuilding project.

Arteta has now become Arsenal’s longest-serving full-time manager, with a win rate of more than 62 per cent across his 361 games in charge.

He has also guided Arsenal to only the second Champions League final in the club’s history.

Their European campaign ultimately ended in disappointment as they lost the final to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.

His honours at Arsenal also include the FA Cup and three Community Shields, but the Premier League title has significantly strengthened his standing among the club’s greatest managers.

“This is a proud moment for me and my family,” Arteta said after committing his future to Arsenal.

He described the club as unique and said he was excited about what could still be achieved during the next stage of their journey.

Arsenal chief executive Richard Garlick said the club wanted to build a “winning era” with Arteta and stressed the manager’s belief, determination and understanding of what was required to create a successful and lasting team.

The new agreement also reflects Arsenal’s broader ambitions. Garlick said shortly after the announcement that the club wants to build on its Premier League success and establish sustained dominance in English football.

Arsenal’s record revenues and return to the Champions League final have strengthened the club’s belief that it can compete consistently at the highest level.

Arteta’s challenge now is to turn Arsenal’s breakthrough into an era of sustained success. Only Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho have won the Premier League more than once as managers.
