Tottenham sack Thomas Frank following prolonged winless run

Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank after less than eight months in charge, with the club currently sitting 16th in the Premier League table, just five points above the relegation zone.

The decision follows growing fan unrest and a poor run of results, culminating in Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle.

Supporters booed Frank and chanted for his dismissal during the match, and the club’s hierarchy reportedly concluded that his position had become untenable.

Frank was appointed in June 2025 as the successor to Ange Postecoglou, who had been dismissed despite leading Spurs to a Europa League triumph.

The club initially expressed a commitment to giving Frank time to build for the future.

However, a combination of disappointing performances and deteriorating results forced the board to act.

In an official statement, Tottenham thanked Frank for his professionalism and commitment, acknowledging his efforts while stating that a change was necessary at this stage of the season.

The Dane leaves with a record of 13 wins from 38 matches in all competitions.

His final defeat against Newcastle cemented the lowest Premier League win percentage of any Spurs manager in the competition’s history at 26.9 percent.

Spurs have won only twice in their last 17 league games and are without a Premier League victory in the current calendar year.

Although Frank guided the team to a fourth-place finish in their Champions League group to reach the knockout stages, they have already exited both domestic cup competitions.

Frank’s short tenure was marked by several setbacks, both on and off the pitch.

One incident that attracted negative attention involved him drinking from a coffee cup bearing Arsenal’s badge, angering supporters.

More significantly, fans struggled to connect with his tactical approach, which many felt did not align with Tottenham’s traditional attacking identity.

Atmosphere inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium had grown increasingly hostile in recent weeks, with boos greeting his name even before kick-off in recent home fixtures.

Chants of “sacked in the morning” and “we want Frank out” were heard during the Newcastle defeat, and the stadium was half empty by full-time.

Despite some internal support for Frank, the board ultimately decided there was no way back once fan backing had evaporated.

With a crucial North London derby against Arsenal approaching on February 22, the club felt decisive action was required.

Frank’s departure means Tottenham are searching for their sixth permanent manager in seven years since Mauricio Pochettino left in 2019, highlighting ongoing instability at the club.

His successor will inherit a side struggling domestically but still competing in the Champions League knockout rounds.

Tottenham’s upcoming fixtures include league matches against Arsenal, Fulham, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, and Nottingham Forest.

The new manager will face immediate pressure to stabilize results and restore confidence among supporters as Spurs aim to pull clear of the relegation battle and salvage their season.
