Sudan’s Al-Ahli Wad Madani pulls out from 2025/26 Rwandan Premier League
Al-Ahli Wad Madani, one of the three Sudanese clubs that had been allowed to participate in the Rwandan Premier League, will not take part in the 2025/26 season.
Two weeks ago, the club had requested to join the Rwandan league since there has been no football championship in Sudan since 2023 due to the ongoing war.
The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), in collaboration with the Rwanda Premier League organizers, had approved the participation of three Sudanese clubs — Al-Ahli Wad Madani, Al-Merrikh, and Al-Hilal SC Omdurman.
However, as FERWAFA President Shema Fabrice explained on Monday, October 27, 2025, the clubs still needed to confirm their full readiness to play the entire season and obtain approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Today, FERWAFA announced that “Al-Ahli Wad Madani, which had recently applied to participate in the 2025/26 Rwanda Premier League season, will no longer take part in this year’s competition.”
Meanwhile, the other two teams, Al-Hilal SC and Al-Merrikh, are expected to begin their participation in the Rwandan Premier League on Matchday 7, next week.
