Rayon Sports, AS Kigali strengthen squads with defensive and midfield signings

Rwandan Premier League clubs Rayon Sports and AS Kigali have continued their preparations for the 2026/27 season by completing significant transfer deals, with both sides reinforcing key areas of their squads as they seek improved performances in the upcoming campaign.

Rayon Sports have announced the signing of promising Nigerien midfielder Ibrahim Djingarey from US Gendarmerie.

The 19-year-old arrives in Kigali as one of the most exciting young prospects in Nigerien football and is widely tipped to become a future regular for the Niger senior national team.

Despite his young age, Djingarey has already earned a reputation for his maturity on the ball, impressive vision, technical ability, and composure under pressure.

His energetic displays in midfield and capacity to dictate play have made him one of the brightest emerging talents in his country, attracting attention beyond Niger's domestic league.

The move reflects Rayon Sports’ long-term strategy of investing in young, high-potential players capable of developing into key figures for the club.

The Blues are determined to rebuild after finishing fourth in the 2025/26 Rwanda Premier League season with 56 points from 34 matches, falling short of their ambitions to challenge for the title.

Club officials hope Djingarey’s arrival will add creativity and energy to the midfield as they target a stronger domestic campaign.

Meanwhile, fellow top-flight side AS Kigali have secured the services of Rwanda international defender Hussein Nsabimana, popularly known as ‘Desailly’, from Etincelles FC.

The experienced defender has signed a long-term contract that will keep him at the club until 2028, underlining AS Kigali’s commitment to building a competitive squad for the future.

Nsabimana joins after an outstanding spell with Etincelles FC, where he established himself as one of the league’s most reliable defenders through consistent performances, strong leadership, and excellent defensive discipline.

His impressive form also earned him regular recognition with the Rwanda national team.

Renowned for his composure, intelligent positioning, strong tackling, aerial dominance, and versatility across the backline, Nsabimana is expected to provide stability and experience to AS Kigali’s defence.

His arrival is viewed as a major boost for the club as they seek to compete for domestic honours in the forthcoming season.

While Rayon Sports have focused on securing one of West Africa’s brightest young midfield talents, AS Kigali have strengthened their defensive with one of Rwanda’s most dependable international defenders.
