Rwanda to host historic FIBA Africa U-16 AfroBasket

Rwanda is set to host the 2025 edition of the FIBA U-16 AfroBasket tournament for both boys and girls.
The competition is scheduled to take place in Kigali from September 2 to 14, 2025.
Hosting this tournament is significant for Rwanda, especially to reaffirms the country's commitment to becoming a hub for sports in Africa and globally.
This biennial tournament is organized by FIBA Africa, the governing body for basketball on the continent.
The top-performing teams in this tournament will qualify for the FIBA U-17 Basketball World Cup.
For both the Boys’ and Girls’ categories, the two teams that reach the final—the champion and the runner-up—will earn qualification.
The FIBA U-17 Basketball World Cup is scheduled to take place in Turkey in 2026, from June 26 to July 5.
Eligible participants for the U-16 AfroBasket must be born on by January 1, 2009.
The Kigali tournament will feature 12 teams in each category [Boys and Girls].
Mali and Guinea crowned champion for Girls and Boys respectivelly.
For this edition, Rwanda will automatically participate in the competition ss the host nation.
Participating teams will be those that qualified through the Seven Zones that make up FIBA Africa.
