Rwanda: Rising stars championship fuels youth football dreams

The 2025/26 edition of the Rwanda Rising Stars Championship has officially kicked off, signaling another exciting chapter in the country’s youth football journey under the leadership of the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA).

Widely regarded as one of Rwanda’s premier grassroots competitions, this season unites 85 teams and more than 2,100 young players, who will compete in approximately 590 matches across U17 and U20 categories for both boys and girls.

Beyond competition, the championship plays a crucial role in identifying emerging talent, nurturing technical skills, and preparing young athletes for higher levels of football.

It also reflects FERWAFA’s ongoing commitment to structured youth development, player protection, and equal access to opportunities regardless of gender.

As matches begin across the country, hopes are high that the tournament will once again uncover future stars capable of representing Rwanda on regional and international stages.
