REG BBC Roar into new season by secured Uwimpuhwe and Sagamba on Radar
Rwanda Energy Group (REG) Basketball Club is making major moves ahead of the new Rwanda Basketball League season, strengthening both its men’s and women’s squads as competition intensifies.
Veteran point guard Sedar Sagamba is attracting strong interest on the transfer market, with REG among several top clubs in talks to sign the experienced floor general.
The 36-year-old is currently a free agent and has spent two days training with REG, fueling speculation over a possible move.
His former side, Patriots Basketball Club, has also reportedly approached him about a potential return.
Sagamba is one of the most accomplished guards in Rwandan basketball. He joined Patriots in 2016 after a four-year spell in Uganda, where he played for Sharing Basketball Club, Warriors, and Ndejje University.
During his time at Sharing BC, he helped the club win the second division title and earn promotion, while at Warriors he reached the league semifinals in 2015.
His Patriots career was highly successful, winning three league titles (2018, 2019, 2020) and finishing runners-up in both the national league and the 2017 FIBA Africa Zone 5 Championship.
Sagamba also featured in the Patriots squad that reached the semifinals of the inaugural Basketball Africa League (BAL) season in Kigali in 2021.
At international level, he earned a national team cap at the 2023 Men’s Afrobasket.
Meanwhile, REG Women’s Basketball Club has confirmed the signing of Henriette Uwimpuhwe on a two-year deal, bolstering their roster as reigning champions.
The 26-year-old shooting guard joins from Kepler, where she spent three seasons and played a pivotal role in the club’s runners-up finish last season.
Uwimpuhwe enjoyed an outstanding 2025 campaign, finishing as Kepler’s top scorer with 476 points.
Born in 2000, she has emerged as one of the league’s most prolific scorers, earning multiple individual accolades.
She was named Most Improved Player in 2021 and went on to finish as the league’s top scorer in 2023, with over 400 points.
Her arrival further strengthens REG’s ambitions both domestically and on the continental stage, where the club represents Rwanda in competitions such as the Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA).
