Police FC 2-1 Rutsiro: Byiringiro Brace seals win for Ben Moussa's new Era
Rwanda international Byiringiro Lague scored twice to hand Police FC a 2-1 win over Rutsiro FC, as they kicked off their 2025/26 Rwanda Premier League campaign on a positive note.
Police FC came into the match determined to start the season strong and quickly asserted dominance, keeping Rutsiro on the back foot throughout large spells of the game.
Byiringiro opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, netting his first goal of the season to give Police the early advantage.
Despite their lead, Police had to withstand some pressure from Rutsiro, who continued to push forward in search of an equalizer.
The turning point came in the 77th minute when Police were awarded a penalty.
Byiringiro stepped up and calmly slotted it home to complete his brace and double the lead.
Just three minutes later, Rutsiro managed to reduce the deficit after a period of sustained pressure led to an own goal by Police FC in the 80th minute.
However, it was too little too late for Rutsiro, as Police held on to claim all three points in their season opener.
