PHOTOS: Inter seal domestic double with Coppa Italia triumph over Lazio

Inter Milan completed a stunning domestic double by beating Lazio 2-0 in the 2026 Coppa Italia final at Stadio Olimpico.

Already crowned Serie A champions, Inter secured their 10th Coppa Italia title with another dominant and disciplined display under Cristian Chivu.

The Nerazzurri wasted little time asserting control over the final.

Lazio, desperate to rescue a difficult season and qualify for Europe through cup success, struggled to contain Inter’s movement and intensity from the opening whistle.

Cristian Chivu’s side dominated possession early on and finally broke the deadlock in the 14th minute through Marcus Thuram.

Federico Dimarco’s dangerous corner created confusion inside the Lazio box, and although Adam Marusic diverted the ball into his own net, the goal was officially credited to Thuram.

Inter’s relentless pressure continued throughout the first half, with Lazio barely able to escape their own half.

The second goal arrived in the 35th minute after a costly mistake from Nuno Tavares.

Denzel Dumfries capitalised on the error before delivering a perfect low cross for captain Lautaro Martínez, who calmly finished from close range to double Inter’s advantage.

At 2-0, the final already felt beyond Lazio. Inter controlled possession with confidence and tactical discipline, limiting Maurizio Sarri’s side to very few clear opportunities.

Although Lazio improved slightly after the break, their attacking play lacked sharpness and conviction.

Tijjani Noslin came closest to reducing the deficit with a low strike that drifted narrowly wide, while Boulaye Dia forced a late save from Josep Martinez. 

However, Inter never truly looked threatened and comfortably managed the game until the final whistle.

The victory marks a historic achievement for Cristian Chivu, who wins both Serie A and Coppa Italia in his debut season as Inter manager.

It also represents Inter’s first domestic double since the legendary 2009/10 campaign under José Mourinho, when Chivu himself was part of the squad that completed a historic treble.

Inter have now lifted the Coppa Italia trophy ten times in their history.

Their triumphs came in the following years: 1938/39, 1977/78, 1981/82, 2004/05, 2005/06, 2009/10, 2010/11, 2021/22, 2022/23, and now 2025/26.
