Mohamed Salah announces Liverpool exit after nine years

After nearly a decade of brilliance at Anfield, Mohamed Salah is set to leave Liverpool FC at the end of the 2025–26 season, bringing an end to one of the most successful individual eras in the club’s modern history.

The 33-year-old forward, who joined Liverpool in 2017 from AS Roma for a reported £36.5 million, has cemented his legacy as one of the club’s all-time greats.

Over nine remarkable years, Salah has made 435 appearances in all competitions, scoring an outstanding 255 goals and providing 119 assists.

His consistency, pace, and clinical finishing have made him a cornerstone of Liverpool’s attacking dominance.

During his time at the club, Salah helped Liverpool secure eight major trophies, including two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League crown in the 2018–19 season—Liverpool’s sixth European triumph.

He currently sits third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list, behind only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt, underlining his historic contribution.

In the Premier League, Salah’s impact has been extraordinary. His 281 goal involvements for Liverpool (189 goals and 92 assists) represent the highest ever for a single club, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s record at Manchester United.

Across the entire competition, his total goal contributions place him among elite company, trailing only Rooney and Alan Shearer.

Individually, Salah has collected numerous accolades, including multiple Premier League Player of the Year awards.

His 2024–25 season was particularly exceptional, as he led Liverpool to their 20th league title while winning both the Golden Boot and Playmaker awards—an achievement he had previously matched in 2021–22, joining Harry Kane as one of the few players to accomplish that feat.

Despite his legendary status, Salah’s current season has been less prolific, with 10 goals and nine assists in 34 appearances under manager Arne Slot.

Speculation about his future intensified after public criticism of the club late last year, but both sides have now agreed on an amicable separation.

As Salah prepares for his final months at Liverpool, he remains focused on helping the team secure a top-four finish and potentially add another Champions League title to his glittering career before bidding farewell to Anfield.
