Miguel Gamondi agrees two-year deal to lead Taifa Stars

Argentine coach Miguel Gamondi has officially signed a two-year contract to coach the Tanzania national team Taifa Stars.

Speaking at a brief signing ceremony for the contract, the Minister for Information, Arts, Culture and Sports, Paul Makonda, said Gamondi deserved the contract after showing his ability in the recent AFCON 2025 tournament held in Morocco.

During the AFCON, Gamondi led Taifa Stars to the Round of 16 for the first time in Tanzanian history as an interim coach.

“The government has now decided to officially hire him to lead the team in its efforts to win the AFCON 2027 championship, where Tanzania will host the tournament,” said Makonda.

Makonda said the government’s decision was based on the remarkable capability shown by Gamondi after guiding Taifa Stars to the round of 16 of the tournament, marking the first time Tanzania has reached that stage in the history of the AFCON, despite him serving as an interim coach.

He added that the government has decided to appoint Gamondi permanently to lead Taifa Stars in preparations for and participation in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Tanzania will co-host.
