Gasogi United, City of Kigali end four-year partnership deal

Gasogi United and the City of Kigali have officially ended a partnership that played an important role in youth football development and talent identification in Rwanda over the past four years.

According to sources, Gasogi United received Rwf80 million annually from the City of Kigali under the partnership agreement

The collaboration began ahead of the 2022-23 season when the City of Kigali added Gasogi United to the list of football clubs receiving support like AS Kigali and Kiyovu Sports as part of its commitment to promoting sports development in the capital.

The partnership joined existing city-backed initiatives involving other top-flight clubs and aimed to strengthen football while creating opportunities for young people across Kigali and beyond.

Throughout the partnership, Gasogi United became a key platform for identifying and nurturing young football talent.

Through talent detection programs, youth training activities, and mentorship initiatives, many aspiring footballers were given opportunities to combine education with sports development.

The project helped provide structure, guidance, and hope to numerous young players seeking a pathway into professional football.

In a message announcing the conclusion of the partnership, Gasogi United President Kakoza Nkuriza Charles thanked the City of Kigali, coaches, technical staff, partners, and players who contributed to the success of the program.

He emphasized that the initiative was not only about football but also about empowering young people and helping them build better futures.

During the years of collaboration, Gasogi United maintained its presence in the Rwanda Premier League and continued to develop players capable of competing at the highest level of domestic football.

Among the players who benefited from Gasogi United’s youth-development project were Alex Nduwayo, who rose from the club’s academy ranks to earn a move to APR FC, as well as Félix Ndekwe Bavakure and Jean-Bosco Kayitaba, who secured transfers to AS Kigali after impressing during their time at Gasogi United.

The club also continued to promote young talents from its academy, including several U20 players who progressed to the senior team, reflecting the success of the development programme.

The club strengthened its reputation as one of Rwanda’s most ambitious football projects, providing opportunities for emerging players to showcase their abilities and progress in their careers.

The partnership also coincided with the City of Kigali’s broader investment in sports development.

According to City of Kigali reports, the municipality remains committed to supporting AS Kigali and other sporting disciplines as part of its strategy to nurture local talent and strengthen community engagement.

For Gasogi United, the end of the partnership marks the close of a significant chapter in the club’s history.
