FIFA Series 2026: Mickels wins Man of the Match with goal, assist in Rwanda triumph
Leroy Jacques Mickels delivered an impressive performance to be named Man of the Match at the 2026 FIFA Series international friendly tournament, which concluded at the packed Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
The forward enjoyed a remarkable debut tournament with the Rwanda national football team.
Mickels first announced himself in style when he scored on his debut during Rwanda’s convincing 4–0 victory over Grenada national football team earlier in the competition.
He carried that momentum into the final match on Monday, March 30, 2026, where Rwanda faced Estonia national football team.
Mickels once again played a decisive role, scoring Rwanda’s second goal and also providing an assist, helping the Amavubi secure a 2–0 victory and lift the tournament trophy in front of their home supporters.
The attacker, who currently plays for Azerbaijani club Zira FK, emerged as one of Rwanda’s standout performers throughout the competition.
His pace, creativity, and clinical finishing made him a constant threat to opposing defenses and a key figure in Rwanda’s successful campaign.
Mickels’ performances not only helped Rwanda claim the 2026 FIFA Series Group A title, but also signaled a promising addition to the national team as the Amavubi continue building momentum on the international stage.
