Champions League: Barcelona crush Madrid 12–2 on aggregate to reach semi-finals
Barcelona booked their place in the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-finals in emphatic fashion, dismantling Real Madrid 6-0 in the second leg to complete a dominant 12-2 aggregate victory.
Already holding a commanding 6-2 advantage from the first leg, the Catalan side showed no signs of easing off, delivering another ruthless display in front of their home crowd.
The hosts wasted no time asserting their authority, opening the scoring in just the eighth minute through Alexia Putellas.
The captain reacted quickest after Ewa Pajor’s initial effort was saved, calmly slotting the rebound into the net.
Barcelona doubled their lead shortly after, with Putellas again instrumental as her cross was met by Caroline Graham Hansen, who rose above the defense to head home.
Real Madrid goalkeeper Misa Rodríguez produced a series of impressive saves to deny Hansen and Pajor, but she was eventually beaten again in the 27th minute when Irene Paredes powered in a header from a well-delivered corner.
Barcelona’s relentless pressure continued, and Pajor added a fourth before halftime, converting at the second attempt after another fine stop from Misa.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Barcelona maintaining control and intensity.
Hansen added a fifth goal with a brilliant solo effort, weaving through defenders before lifting the ball into the net.
The scoring was completed by Esmee Brugts, who finished off a well-worked team move just moments after coming off the bench, following a precise assist from fellow substitute Clara Serrajordi.
The match also marked a historic milestone for Putellas, who made her 500th appearance for the club.
Her early goal saw her become the first Spanish woman to reach 30 goals in the Women’s Champions League, further cementing her legacy as one of the game’s greats.
Barcelona’s dominance over Real Madrid in this fixture remains overwhelming. They have now won 24 of their 25 meetings across all competitions, including a perfect record in cup encounters, where they have consistently outclassed their rivals.
Statistically, the victory was fully deserved. Barcelona generated an impressive expected goals (xG) figure of 5.36 from 33 attempts, with 14 shots on target.
In contrast, Real Madrid managed just eight attempts and failed to register a single shot on target, underlining the gulf in quality between the two sides.
With this performance, Barcelona will face Bayern Munich, as one of Europe’s elite showdown.
