Boxing: Kigali Universe and SGI to host explosive third UBC edition
The Universe Boxing Championship (UBC) returns on Thursday, May 28, 2026, for its third edition.
Organized by Kigali Universe and Sports Genix International (SGI), the championship promotes professional boxing and sports entertainment growth across Rwanda and East Africa.
Launched in 2024, the Universe Boxing Championship has grown into a major regional boxing event, attracting top amateur and professional fighters from Rwanda, Uganda, Gabon and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The event is known for explosive bouts, powerful punches and ring skills that excite boxing fans annually.
This year’s edition will feature 12 bouts, including five amateur and seven professional fights.
The action-packed fight card will officially begin at 5:30 PM, with each bout scheduled for six intense three-minute rounds.
Among the amateur clashes, boxing enthusiasts will witness Hagenimana Aman square off against Kamali Olivier in the 51kg division, while Iyanone Jean Claude faces Hirwa Fillia in the 54kg category.
Buzuli Kennedy will also enter the ring against Nshimiyimana David in the featherweight 57kg division.
Other amateur fixtures include Niyomurinzi Valence versus Mazimpaka Vedaste and Rubamba Iguru against Ngabo Ahmed, both in the lightweight 60kg class.
The professional card is expected to raise the intensity beginning at 7:40 PM.
Rwanda’s Niyonagize Isaac will battle Uganda’s Ssenyongo Hamza in what promises to be a fierce tactical contest.
Nsabimana David will also face Uganda’s Nasasira Moses before Rwanda’s rising female boxer Nsengiyumva Angel steps into the ring against Najjemba Nadia of Uganda.
Additional professional fights include Mugisha Emmanuel versus Mathias Marciano, Hagenimana Aimable against Tumukunde Moses, Ndayishimiye Patrick facing Ainembabazi Pascal, while the headline bout of the evening will see Nsengiyumva Vincent trade punches with Uganda’s Tumushime Christmas.
The previous editions produced memorable champions, with Rwanda’s Nsengiyumva Vincent emerging as one of the standout male winners, while female boxing sensation Uwase Divine impressed audiences with her technical brilliance and aggressive ring control in earlier editions.
