Amahoro Sports Academy Officially opens in Kigali with 50 Young Athletes
Boxing coach and sports development advocate Bikorimana Jean Maurice has officially launched Amahoro Sports Academy, a new combat sports training center based in Kibagabaga, Kigali City, aimed at nurturing young talent and promoting combat sports across Rwanda.
The academy opened its doors with 50 young athletes, including 21 girls and 29 boys, reflecting a strong commitment to youth development and gender inclusion.
Amahoro Sports Academy will provide structured training in Boxing, Karate, Taekwondo, Kickboxing, and Judo, with long-term plans to develop athletes capable of competing in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) at both regional and international levels.
Speaking at the launch, Bikorimana Jean Maurice said the academy is part of a broader vision to position Kigali as a regional hub for combat sports.
“This project has been in development for some time. Our ambition is to transform Villa Belle Vue into a center of excellence for combat sports. We aim to produce disciplined, skilled athletes who can represent Rwanda on international platforms, including professional MMA competitions such as the PFL,” he said
“The launch of Amahoro Sports Academy marks a significant step in strengthening grassroots sports development and expanding opportunities for young athletes in Rwanda”, he added
Young athletes and their families have welcomed the initiative. Murengezi Fiston (12), who began boxing at the age of nine, said the academy provides him with an opportunity to refine his skills, build discipline, and pursue his dream of becoming one of Rwanda’s top boxers.
Uwineza Deborah (14), who started boxing in 2023, expressed her determination to work hard alongside her teammates to achieve competitive success.
Bikorimana Jean Maurice is a former member of the Rwanda National Boxing Team, which he joined in 2007.
He later pursued advanced coaching training in France between 2011 and 2013.
In addition, he served as Vice President of the Rwanda Boxing Federation until 2023, playing a key role in the growth and organization of the sport nationally.
