The Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts Rwanda (GAMMA Rwanda) successfully conducted its second technical training camp for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), marking another significant step in the structured development of the sport in Rwanda.
The two-day training camp took place from Saturday, December 20 to Sunday, December 21, 2025, at The Great Warriors Sport Academy in Rebero.
The training brought together 28 participants, predominantly young athletes, including four international participants.
The objective of the training was to enhance the technical capacity of both athletes and coaches, as Mixed Martial Arts remains a developing discipline within the country.
The sessions were led by renowned international MMA coach Lubega Ahmed Ali from Uganda, who provided specialized technical instruction across various aspects of MMA.
Pointing on the event, the President of GAMMA Rwanda, Mr. Dieudonné Mwizerwa, expressed satisfaction with the increased participation compared to the first edition, particularly highlighting the strong involvement of youth.
“The level of participation has significantly increased, with young athletes showing strong interest, discipline, and potential in Mixed Martial Arts. This reflects the growing acceptance and future promise of the sport in Rwanda,” he added
Mr. Mwizerwa further noted that among the 28 participants were three fighters from Uganda and one from Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, all of whom have backgrounds in various combat sports, including MMA, Boxing, Kickboxing, and Jiu-Jitsu.
During the training, GAMMA Rwanda officially introduced 13 new MMA fighters who are now eligible to represent Rwanda in upcoming national and international competitions.
GAMMA Rwanda reaffirmed its commitment to the sustainable growth of Mixed Martial Arts in the country, highlighting that the federation has achieved official membership in both GAMMA International and the Federation for International Mixed Martial Arts (FIMMA).
Through these affiliations, Rwanda has begun active participation in international MMA development programs and events.
