Liverpool, Chelsea, AC Milan and Juventus lead Deadline Day transfer headlines

Deadline Day is underway with several early developments across the Premier League, Scotland, and Europe as clubs race against the clock to finalise business before the window shuts.

In England, the transfer window closes at 7pm, while Scottish clubs have until 11pm.

Italy, Germany, and France also close at 7pm, Spain shuts at 10.59pm, and Portugal’s window remains open until February 3.

Saudi Arabia’s window closes on February 2, while the women’s winter window runs until February 3, 2026.

Among the headline stories, Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, with the deal expected to begin at the start of the summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old will not be loaned back to Rennes, and a medical is taking place in England on Deadline Day.

Despite Chelsea offering similar terms, Jacquet reportedly chose Liverpool due to concerns over limited playing time at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea are already well stocked in central defence.

Chelsea are also expected to loan Axel Disasi to West Ham, despite interest from AC Milan and Fiorentina.

Disasi, who joined Chelsea for £38m in 2023, wants to remain in London and the Premier League.

West Ham are keen to strengthen at centre-back following Igor Julio’s return to Brighton, though Southampton’s Taylor Harwood-Bellis is considered unavailable.

In Scotland, Celtic have rejected an improved £17.3m bid from Nottingham Forest for midfielder Arne Engels, making it clear the Belgian international is not for sale.

Celtic hope that is the end of Forest’s pursuit, having already turned down an earlier £14m offer.

The club have, however, agreed a loan deal for Freiburg forward Junior Adamu, with discussions ongoing over a possible option to buy.

The Austria international is already in the UK and is due to undergo a medical.

At Crystal Palace, attention is focused on both incomings and outgoings.

Palace remain open to signing a centre-back following the departure of captain Marc Guéhi to Manchester City.

While the return to fitness of Chadi Riad has provided a boost, the club continue to monitor the market.

A move for Club Brugge defender Joel Ordoñez appears unlikely unless the Belgian side lower their valuation.

Palace are also central to one of Deadline Day’s most unexpected sagas involving Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jørgen Strand Larsen.

AC Milan are set to make a final decision on whether to sign Mateta, with club doctors sent to assess the striker.

Should the deal go through, Palace are prepared, having agreed a £43m guaranteed fee plus £5m in add-ons for Wolves striker Strand Larsen, who has already undergone a medical.

The deal is progressing as planned despite Milan delaying their final call.

Elsewhere, Wolves are conducting medicals for Angel Gomes and Adam Armstrong.

Gomes is joining on loan from Marseille for the remainder of the season, while Armstrong is set to arrive permanently from Southampton in a deal worth £7m plus £2m in add-ons.

Wolves remain in talks with Torino over Che Adams, though that move currently looks unlikely.

Fulham’s pursuit of PSV striker Ricardo Pepi hangs in the balance, as the Dutch club attempt to secure a replacement before allowing the US international to leave.

Pepi is keen on the move, but time is running out for PSV to complete their own business.

In Italy, Juventus have enquired about Everton striker Beto, though the Premier League club are reluctant to sell without signing a replacement.

Beto recently scored a dramatic late equaliser against Brighton, underlining his importance to Everton’s squad.

Finally, Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has admitted his contract situation is “not in my hands,” though he expressed a strong desire to stay at Anfield, praising the club, city, teammates, and fans as talks continue.

With hours remaining before the deadline, clubs across Europe are scrambling to complete deals, making for a dramatic and unpredictable finale to the winter transfer window.
