Joy-Lance Mickels signs new two-year deal with Sabah FK

Rwandan international forward Joy-Lance Mickels has officially signed a new two-year contract with Azerbaijan champions Sabah FK following a remarkable season that established him as one of the club’s most influential players.

The talented attacker played a vital role in Sabah FK’s historic campaign as the Baku-based side secured both the Azerbaijan Premier League title and the Azerbaijan Cup, completing an impressive domestic double.

Mickels was among the standout performers throughout the season and finished as the club’s top scorer, earning admiration from supporters and football observers across Azerbaijan.

Known for his pace, creativity, dribbling ability, and clinical finishing, Mickels consistently delivered important performances in key matches.

His contribution in attack helped Sabah FK dominate domestic football while also securing qualification for UEFA club competitions next season.

The contract extension highlights the confidence Sabah FK has in the Rwandan star as the club prepares for another demanding campaign that will include defending its league title and competing on the European stage.

Born on March 29, 1994, in Siegburg, Germany, Joy-Lance Mickels represents Rwanda internationally through his family roots.

Mickels began his football journey at VSF Amern before progressing through the youth system of Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Since then, he has built an impressive professional career across several countries including Germany, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, and Azerbaijan.

During his career, Mickels has played for Borussia Mönchengladbach II, Schalke 04 II, Alemannia Aachen, Wacker Nordhausen, Carl Zeiss Jena, MVV Maastricht, Sabah FK, and Al Faisaly.

He has scored important goals at nearly every club he represented, with his most productive spell coming at Sabah FK where he has become one of the team’s leading attacking figures.

Among the trophies won during his career are the Thuringian Cup with Wacker Nordhausen in 2019, as well as the Azerbaijan Premier League and Azerbaijan Cup titles with Sabah FK.

At 32 years old, Joy-Lance Mickels continues to prove himself as one of Rwanda’s top footballers playing abroad.
