ESB Kamonyi, Gitisi TSS dominate 2026 Amashuri Kagame Cup U20 championships (Photos)

Ecole Sainte Bernadette de Kamonyi and Gitisi TSS emerged as top winners of the 2026 Amashuri Kagame Cup U20 in Kigali after intense competition.

The championships concluded on May 31, 2026, in Kigali after a week of intense school sports competition across multiple disciplines.

ESB Kamonyi delivered a dominant performance across several sporting categories, claiming four trophies, while Gitisi TSS secured two titles in rugby, underlining their strength in school-level sports development.

The tournament brought together secondary schools from across the country competing in Football, Basketball (5x5 and 3x3), Volleyball, Handball, Rugby, Netball, and Beach Volleyball, with the semi-finals played on Saturday and the finals held on Sunday at different venues.

ESB Kamonyi showcased exceptional depth in Basketball and Volleyball.

The school won the boys’ and girls’ 3x3 Basketball titles, defeating ECOSE Musambira in the boys’ category and Marie Reine Rwaza in the girls’ final.

In 5x5 Basketball, ESB Kamonyi also claimed the girls’ title after a convincing 77–58 victory over LDK.

The school further added a beach Volleyball girls’ title after overcoming ETEFOP Musanze, cementing its status as one of the strongest all-round performers in the competition.

Gitisi TSS, based in Ruhango District, excelled in rugby, winning both the boys’ and girls’ categories.

The boys’ team defeated Kayenzi TSS, while the girls’ side secured victory against ES Kabarondo, confirming the school’s growing reputation in the sport.

Other notable winners included CGFK (Kicukiro District), who claimed the boys’ Football title after a narrow 1–0 win over APE Rugunga, while PSBB (Huye District) won the girls’ Football crown by defeating GS APE Rugunga.

In 5x5 boys’ Basketball, ITS (Gasabo District) triumphed over ECOSE Musambira with a high-scoring 102–84 victory.

In Handball, GS Tabagwe (Nyagatare District) won the boys’ title after beating ADEGI 26–23, while ES Kiziguro (Kayonza District) secured the girls’ trophy.

Volleyball titles went to Nyanza TSS (boys) and GS Indangaburezi (girls), while netball was won by GS Gahini (Kayonza District).

Beach volleyball boys’ honours went to PSVF Huye after a competitive final.

FRSS President Luke Karemangingo praised the competition, noting increased intensity and improved organization.

He emphasized that top-performing schools will represent Rwanda at the FEASSSA Games scheduled for August in Morogoro, Tanzania, adding that preparations for U15 categories are also underway.

The Amashuri Kagame Cup continues to serve as Rwanda’s premier school sports platform, providing a structured pathway for young athletes to progress from grassroots school competitions to regional and international stages.
