Rwanda Airports Company (RAC) emerged as one of the standout performers at the 2026 Labour Day Games organized by the Association Rwandaise Pour la Promotion du Sport au milieu du Travail (ARPST), clinching the main football title and adding a men’s volleyball crown in a multi-sport event that brought together institutions from across the country.

The tournament, held over three months and concluding on May 1, 2026, formed part of celebrations marking International Workers' Day.

It featured various disciplines including Football, Basketball, Volleyball, and individual sports such as tennis, swimming, all aimed at promoting unity, wellness, and collaboration among employees.

In the headline football final in Category A, RAC delivered an emphatic performance to defeat the University Teaching Hospital of Butare 4-1.

Played at Pele Stadium Nyamirambo, the showdown attracted high-level attendance, including Labour Minister Amb. Christine Nkulikiyinka.

RAC’s victory confirmed them as the top-performing team in the competition’s premier football category.

In Category B football, Rwanda Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration (DGIE) secured the title, while Rwanda Energy Group (REG) finished third after edging National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda 1-0 at Butamwa VTC.

Basketball competitions also produced exciting action.

In the Category B men’s final, NISR defeated DGIE 95-86, while in Category A, Rwanda Revenue Authority overcame RAC 78-72 at Cercle Sportif de Kigali.

In the women’s Category B, Rwanda Biomedical Centre dominated CHUB with a commanding 78-10 victory.

Volleyball competitions were equally competitive.

RBC completed a double triumph in women’s volleyball, winning both Category A and B titles with straight-sets victories over Water and Sanitation Corporation Group and RRA respectively.

In men’s Category A volleyball, RAC continued their impressive run by defeating the Ministry of ICT and Innovation 3-0 to secure another trophy.

According to ARPST president Johnson Niyonshuti, the games are designed to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and stronger relationships among employees from different sectors.

The event also serves as a platform for networking and celebrating the value of labour through sport.

International Workers’ Day in Rwanda, observed annually on May 1, is a public holiday dedicated to recognizing the contribution of workers to national development.

The ARPST Labour Day Games have become a key feature of these celebrations, combining competition with social interaction and national unity.

The 2026 edition concluded successfully, with RAC’s dominant performances across multiple disciplines standing out as a major highlight of the tournament.
