PHOTOS: Rayon Sports thrash Musanze to secure first league win
Rayon Sports returned to winning ways in the BK Pro League with a convincing 3-0 victory over Musanze FC at Kigali Pelé Stadium on Wednesday, October 28, ending their wait for a first league victory of the 2026/27 season.
Goals from Kameni Junior (20’), Iradukunda Elie Tatou (53’) and Muderi Akbar (68’) secured all three points for Francis Haringingo’s side in the rescheduled Matchday Five fixture.
Rayon entered the contest under pressure following a difficult run that included a 1-1 league draw against Sunrise FC, a 1-0 defeat to Gorilla FC and elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup against Mozambique’s Black Bulls.
The Kigali-based side responded positively against a Musanze team that had beaten Police FC 2-0 in its previous league outing.
Rayon started brightly and threatened the visitors’ goal in the opening minutes.
Iradukunda came close to opening the scoring in the fourth minute, while Muderi Akbar and Muhoza Daniel also helped create opportunities as the hosts took control of the early exchanges.
Their pressure paid off in the 20th minute when Kameni Junior capitalised on defensive uncertainty in Musanze’s backline before firing home to put Rayon ahead.
Musanze gradually grew into the contest and attempted to respond through Christivie Bioko and other attacking players.
Rayon maintained its advantage despite a disallowed goal in the 38th minute after Muhoza Daniel’s effort was ruled out for offside.
The hosts went into the break leading 1-0 before returning for the second half with renewed attacking intent.
Iradukunda doubled Rayon’s advantage in the 53rd minute after skillfully dribbling past Musanze defenders and sending a powerful shot into the net.
Musanze tried to reduce the deficit, but Hakizimana Tity’s effort in the 72nd minute struck the crossbar, denying the visitors a route back into the game.
Rayon then sealed the victory in the 69th minute, when Muderi Akbar unleashed a powerful strike to make it 3-0.
Despite further attempts from the visitors, goalkeeper Dande Junior and the home defence kept a clean sheet.
Iradukunda was subsequently named Man of the Match for his influential performance, which included a goal and a significant contribution to Rayon’s attacking play.
Previous meetings between the two sides had often been closely contested, including a 1-1 draw in February 2026 and a 2-0 Rayon victory in December 2025.
After the final whistle, Rayon moved to 11th place with four points, according to the match report, while Musanze remained on six points in 10th.
Rayon Sports will next travel to Rubavu to face Marine FC this weekend.
