PHOTOS: Biramahire and Mickels fire Amavubi to FIFA Series 2026 title after outlasting Estonia
Rwanda secured an impressive 2–0 victory over Estonia on Monday night at Stade Amahoro to lift the FIFA Series 2026 Group A trophy in Kigali.
Abeddy Biramahire proved decisive with a well-taken opener, showcasing his sharp finishing and attacking awareness, while Leroy-Jacques Mickels added the second with a composed strike.
The duo’s attacking chemistry and creativity were central to Rwanda’s success, as they combined pace, precision, and confidence to lead the Amavubi to a deserved triumph on home soil.
Heading into the encounter, Rwanda were ranked 130th in the latest FIFA rankings, just one place behind Estonia at 129th, setting the stage for a closely contested match.
However, the Amavubi delivered a composed and clinical performance to underline their progress on home soil.
Rwanda broke the deadlock in the 30th minute through Abeddy Biramahire, who finished calmly after being set up by Joy-Lance Mickels.
The goal rewarded Rwanda’s early dominance, as they controlled possession and pressed effectively against the Estonian backline.
Biramahire’s movement and attacking presence consistently troubled the visitors, giving Rwanda a deserved 1–0 lead at halftime.
Estonia attempted to respond after the break with a series of substitutions aimed at injecting energy into their attack.
Despite these changes, Rwanda remained organized defensively, with the backline marshalled well to limit clear-cut chances.
The hosts doubled their advantage in the 51st minute when Leroy-Jacques Mickels found the back of the net, finishing off a well-coordinated move assisted by captain Djihad Bizimana.
The goal effectively sealed the result, as Rwanda maintained control of the tempo and showed maturity in game management.
This victory follows Rwanda’s dominant 4–0 win over Grenada earlier in the tournament, meaning they conclude their FIFA Series 2026 campaign in Kigali with two wins from two matches and without conceding a goal.
The performances highlight a growing cohesion within the squad and offer optimism for future competitive fixtures.
For Estonia, the defeat adds to a mixed run of form coming into the tournament. While they had shown attacking promise in previous matches, including a high-scoring win over Cyprus, defensive inconsistencies once again proved costly.
Their inability to convert possession into goals against a disciplined Rwandan side ultimately defined the outcome.
The FIFA Series 2026 has provided both teams with valuable international exposure and an opportunity to test tactical setups against similarly ranked opponents.
For Rwanda, the takeaway is highly positive—confidence, defensive solidity, and attacking efficiency. For Estonia, the focus will shift to regrouping and addressing key weaknesses ahead of upcoming fixtures.
As the tournament concludes in Kigali, Rwanda emerge as one of the standout performers, using home advantage to build momentum, while Estonia leave with lessons to refine their approach on the international stage.
