Habib Beye named Marseille Head Coach until 2027
Olympique de Marseille officially announced on Wednesday, 18 February, that Habib Beye is the new head coach of the first team. He has signed a contract running until 30 June 2027.
He replaces Italian manager Roberto De Zerbi, who left the club about a week earlier following a series of disappointing results.
Beye, 48, is a historic figure at OM. He played for the club from 2003 to 2007, served as captain, and remains highly regarded by supporters.
During his time as a player, he helped Marseille win the 2005 UEFA Intertoto Cup and reach the 2004 UEFA Cup final.
After retiring as a player, Beye moved into coaching. He notably managed Red Star FC, guiding them to Ligue 2, and later coached Stade Rennais FC in Ligue 1 until early February 2026.
At Rennes, he oversaw 36 Ligue 1 matches, averaging approximately 1.6 points per game.
At Marseille, the club hopes his deep understanding of the institution and leadership qualities will help stabilize a squad affected by inconsistent performances.
The objectives set for him include rebuilding team morale, pushing for a top-three finish in Ligue 1, and challenging for the Coupe de France.
Marseille are currently fourth in the league, still in contention for European qualification and domestic cup success.
Beye is expected to be presented to the media on Thursday and will take charge of his first match on Friday against Stade Brestois 29 in Ligue 1.
His appointment comes during a period of internal turbulence at the club, marked by sporting and structural changes, making his return both symbolic and strategically significant for Marseille’s ambitions.
