Zimbabwe 0-1 Rwanda: Amavubi seal crucial victory to keep World Cup dream alive

Amavubi secured a crucial victory over Zimbabwe on Tuesday in Matchday 8 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, keeping their hopes of a historic World Cup qualification alive.

The Rwandan national team delivered a spirited performance to claim their first win under head coach Adel Amrouche, who took over the reins earlier in the campaign.

The decisive moment came in the 40th minute, when Gilbert Mugisha of Armée Patriotique Rwandaise Football Club struck a brilliant goal to separate the two sides.

His effort proved enough to earn Rwanda all three points.

This vital win comes on the back of a narrow 1-0 loss to Nigeria in Uyo, marking a strong comeback for Amavubi.

The result takes Rwanda to 11 points in Group C, placing them fourth in the table level on points with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, who are in third on goal difference.

With only a few matches left in the group stage, Amavubi will need to maintain their momentum and perform at their best if they hope to achieve a first-ever qualification for the FIFA World Cup.
