Tottenham sack Tudor after 44-day reign
Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with Igor Tudor after a turbulent 44-day spell in charge, leaving the club fighting to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
The Croatian coach oversaw just seven matches during his brief tenure, losing five and collecting only a single league point.
His only notable success came in a 3–2 victory over Atlético Madrid in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie.
However, that result was insufficient to overturn a heavy 5–2 aggregate defeat from the first leg in Spain, ending Spurs’ European ambitions despite a flicker of promise.
Any hope generated from that performance quickly faded following a damaging 3–0 loss to relegation rivals Nottingham Forest.
The defeat compounded Tottenham’s struggles and left them hovering just above the relegation zone in 17th place, only one point clear of West Ham United with seven matches remaining in the campaign.
Tudor’s departure was confirmed in a club statement, which described the decision as mutual.
Alongside him, goalkeeping coach Tomislav Rogic and physical coach Riccardo Ragnacci have also exited.
Spurs thanked the trio for their efforts during a difficult six-week period and extended condolences to Tudor, who suffered the loss of his father shortly after the Forest defeat, preventing him from fulfilling post-match media duties.
With the season entering a decisive phase, Tottenham face a critical battle to secure their top-flight status.
A short break in fixtures—due to the international window and their early FA Cup exit—offers the club a brief opportunity to regroup before returning to action against Sunderland on April 12.
Further key fixtures include a home clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, followed by must-win encounters against bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers and fellow strugglers Leeds United in early May.
These matches are likely to determine Spurs’ survival hopes.
Assistant coach Bruno Saltor has remained at the club and is expected to oversee training temporarily. Saltor, a former Brighton defender, previously served as caretaker manager at Chelsea in 2023, though he is not considered a long-term option.
Reports indicate that Tottenham are working quickly to appoint a new head coach within days, allowing the incoming manager limited preparation time ahead of the Sunderland fixture.
The urgency reflects the high stakes involved, with relegation projected to cost the club around £250 million in lost revenue.
For Tottenham, the coming weeks will define their season—and possibly their future.
