Joy-Slayd Mickels leaves Karvan-Yevlakh after one season
Rwanda international forward Slayd Mickels has officially parted ways with Azerbaijani club Karvan-Yevlakh following the expiration of his contract.
The 31-year-old leaves Karvan-Yevlakh after making 19 appearances and scoring five goals, playing an important role in the club’s offensive setup throughout the campaign.
His departure was confirmed by the club, which expressed gratitude for his professionalism and commitment while wishing him success in the next chapter of his career.
In a farewell statement, Karvan-Yevlakh thanked the Rwandan international for his contributions and acknowledged the impact he made during his time at the club.
Mickels’ versatility across the front line enabled him to operate effectively on either wing as well as in central attacking positions, providing tactical flexibility and valuable experience to the squad.
Founded in the city of Yevlakh, Karvan-Yevlakh is one of Azerbaijan’s historic football clubs and has worked in recent years to re-establish itself as a competitive force within the country's football structure.
The club has traditionally focused on developing a balanced squad capable of competing at a high level while blending experienced players with emerging talent.
Mickels was among the players brought in to strengthen the team’s attacking options and add international experience to the dressing room.
During his time in Azerbaijan, the pacey attacker showcased the qualities that have defined much of his professional career.
Known for his direct running, dribbling ability, and willingness to take on defenders in one-versus-one situations, Mickels often provided a threat in transition and contributed to the team's attacking movements with his creativity and work rate.
Born in Siegburg, Germany, Mickels began his football journey in the German football system and featured for several clubs across the country’s lower divisions.
Before joining Karvan-Yevlakh, he played for German side SF Uevekoven, where he continued to demonstrate his attacking qualities and versatility.
Over the years, he has built a reputation as a hardworking forward capable of operating in multiple roles across the frontline.
On the international stage, Mickels has represented Rwanda and brought valuable experience to the national team setup.
His decision to represent the Amavubi added another chapter to a career that has spanned different leagues and football cultures across Europe.
Mickels is also the twin brother of fellow professional footballer Joy-Lance Mickels, with both players sharing Congolese heritage and enjoying careers in professional football.
