Arsenal clinch Premier League title after Manchester City held by Bournemouth

Arsenal were crowned 2025-26 Premier League champions after Manchester City were held to a dramatic 1-1 draw by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, ending the Gunners’ 22-year wait for the English title and securing the club’s 14th league crown in historic fashion.

The result confirmed Arsenal as champions before the final weekend of the season, with Pep Guardiola’s side unable to close the gap despite a late Erling Haaland equaliser deep into stoppage time.

The draw left City mathematically out of the race and sparked celebrations across north London as Mikel Arteta guided Arsenal to their first Premier League triumph since the legendary “Invincibles” campaign of 2003-04.

Arsenal’s latest title success also moved them level with Manchester United for the second-most English top-flight titles in history, behind only Liverpool.

It marked a remarkable turnaround for the club after years of rebuilding and several near misses in recent seasons.

Since winning the league unbeaten in 2004 under Arsène Wenger, Arsenal endured a long wait to return to the summit of English football.

The club finished runners-up in 2005, slipped into periods outside the Champions League places between 2017 and 2022, and then dramatically re-emerged as title contenders under Arteta.

Arsenal finished second behind Manchester City in both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons before finally reclaiming the crown in 2026.

At the Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth produced one of their finest performances of the season to frustrate the defending champions.

Junior Kroupi stunned City in the 39th minute with a superb curling strike after excellent work from Adrien Truffert down the left flank.

The goal ignited celebrations among Bournemouth supporters and intensified pressure on Guardiola’s men.

City dominated possession but struggled to break through Bournemouth’s disciplined defence.

Bournemouth created several dangerous chances and nearly sealed victory through David Brooks and Rayan late in the second half.

As the clock ticked into stoppage time, Haaland finally gave City hope by smashing home from close range in the 95th minute after Rodri’s shot rebounded off the post.

However, the equaliser came too late to rescue the title race.

The result capped a difficult evening for Guardiola amid growing speculation surrounding his future at Manchester City.

Reports earlier in the day suggested the Spaniard could leave the club after a historic decade in charge, although City have not officially confirmed the situation.

The Bournemouth’s draw strengthened their push for European qualification and highlighted the impressive progress made under Andoni Iraola, whose side extended their unbeaten league run to 16 matches.

After years of disappointment, rebuilding and heartbreak, the Gunners finally returned to the top of English football, ending one of the Premier League’s longest title waits and writing a new chapter in the club’s history.
