Liverpool have belatedly presented Mohamed Salah with their first offer for a contract extension, according to a report.
The club’s prolific forward is currently on a deal which expires in June 2025, sparking a torrent of speculation over his future throughout the current campaign.
He has stoked the flames of this raging drama by delivering a series of public comments suggesting that this will be his last season on Merseyside.
Paris Saint-Germain have distanced themselves from a potential move for the soon-to-be free agent, but there are a host of clubs that would willingly sign Salah this summer.
The 32-year-old, by all accounts, is keen on staying at Liverpool and would reportedly be willing to accept a one-year extension on his existing wages.
While Salah has done plenty of talking, the club have reportedly engaged in radio silence with their own player.
Now, with barely three weeks until 1 January 2025 – when Salah can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club – Liverpool have finally tabled an opening offer, according to The Athletic.
Centre-back Virgil van Dijk and boyhood Liverpool fan Trent Alexander-Arnold are also in the midst of contractual negotiations with the club. Both players have also been offered extensions.
While the proposed deal for Van Dijk fell short of the Dutchman’s expectations, Liverpool will have to compete with Real Madrid for Alexander-Arnold’s signature as the Spanish giants circle.
