PSG are making their move for former Spain boss Luis Enrique after talks with Julian Nagelsmann failed to progess; interest in Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta also never got off the ground.

Paris Saint-Germain are closing in on the appointment of Luis Enrique as their new head coach, after Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta distanced himself from any interest, 90min understands.

PSG confirmed earlier this month that Christophe Galtier would not be remaining in charge at the Parc Des Princes next season, despite claiming the Ligue 1 title in 2022/23.

A host of names were linked, including Jose Mourinho. Talks took place with Julian Nagelsmann, but as with similar at Chelsea and Tottenham, they did not progress to him being appointed.

Sources have confirmed to 90min that PSG football advisor Luis Campos was pushing the club to consider Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta. But 90min understands that no talks took place as it was clear from the outset that the Spaniard, who spent 18 months on loan at PSG early in his own playing career, was not even considering moving on this summer.

Enrique, who like Nagelsmann also held talks with Chelsea and Tottenham, soon emerged as PSG’s top target. Negotiations began over the weekend to finalise terms with the former Spain coach.

90min has now been informed that terms are agreed in principle with Enrique, but a few finer details and staffing appointments still need to be ironed out before his arrival is confirmed.
