Cricket: Rwanda defeat Nigeria by 39 Runs in the Match Day 5 of the NCF Womens Tournament

On this Saturday, 01st April, all Nigirians Cricketers are await the big match between Rwanda and their Country in the NCF Womens Tournament.

One of the most anticipated matches is the match between Rwanda and Nigeria, which is the host of the tournament.

This game ended in favor of Rwanda by beating Nigeria by 39 runs.

Day 5 Match 1: Cameroon vs Sierra Leone

With the tournament on cruise control, match day 5 was set to be the clash of titans with Nigeria and Rwanda fighting the last battle before the war while Sierra Leone vs Cameroon was about rankings, pride and bragging rights as both teams come into this match on the backdrop of 1 win each.

Cameroon won the toss and elected to bat first sending in Sierra Leone to field. Cameroon started brightly but soon lost the first wicket on 19 runs in the 3rd over. At the end of 6 overs of power play, Cameroon were 27 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.

The batters for Cameroon continued to impress with boundaries coming at intervals, and extras from the Sierra Leone bowlers contributing to the overall score.

Madeleine Nseke scored 14 runs off 27 balls supported by Michele Ekani with 14 runs off 20 balls were the best performers with the bat for Cameroon. In the end, Cameroon finished with 81 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs.

Janet Kowa and Fatu Pessima both got 2 wickets, conceding 11 and 14 runs respectively in 4 overs for Sierra Leone.

The run chase for Sierra Leone in the second innings began with intent but lost the first wicket at the end of the second over. Gradually the next pair continued to put runs on the board to ensure that each over played got them closer to the required total. At the end of the power play overs of 6’ Sierra Leone were 35 runs for the loss of 1 wicket. At midway into the innings, Sierra Leone stood firmly on 51 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.

Sierra Leone made sure of the victory scoring the required total of 82 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 15 overs.

Celina Bull scored 25 runs off 40 balls assisted by Captain Fatmata Parkinson with 18 runs off 17 balls as the double figures and best batting contribution for Sierra Leone.

Manuella Mbida got 2 wickets conceding 17 runs in 4 overs for Cameroon.

Janet Kowa was named player of the match.

Day 5 Match 1: Nigeria vs Rwanda

The much anticipated match of 2 teams with great cricketing abilities and friendly rivalry was set with both teams winning their opening 3 games ahead of this encounter. Rwanda are defending Champions and Nigeria, the biggest threat to unseat them.

The match started as predicted with beautiful bowling and sublime batting to the amusement and appreciation of all. Giselle Ishimwe and Sarah Uwera were in control to ensure that Rwanda were comfortable on 41 runs for no loss in 6 overs of power play.

Nigeria finally got the breakthrough with the fall of Sarah’s Uwera’s wicket on the 1st ball of the 9th over. Henriette Inshimwe could not reproduce her efforts from the last game as she fell to just 8 runs. Celebrations were still on the minds of the Nigeria team when Giselle lost her wicket off the 1st ball from the leg spinner Adekunle Shola. At the end of the 14th over, Rwanda was 74 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.

Not taking anything away from the superb bowling from Nigeria, Rwanda continued to battle and fight through and with some level of experience and maturity to grind home a total of100 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.

Sarah Uwera scored 20 runs off 29 balls, Giselle Ishimwe 29 runs off 34 balls and Bimenyimana Marie 11 runs off 14 balls as the best batting contributions for Rwanda.

Adekunle Shola was unbelievable with the leg break spin as she took 3 wickets, conceding 10 runs in 4 overs.

In the second innings, Rwanda courageously opened the bowling with spin and was very impressive in its delivery, restricting Nigeria to just 23 runs for the loss of 3 wickets after the power play overs. Salome Sunday tried to fight back with some impressive strokes and boundaries, but wickets fell on the other end to diminish any chance of a meaningful partnership. Salome eventually fell and the onus rested on Lucky Piety to come good with the bat but the story was the same as Nigeria lost 5 more wickets in 3 overs.

Nigeria eventually finished with a disappointing total of palsy 61 runs all out in 16.4 overs.

Salome Sunday was the only iota of light in the Nigeria batting line up with 29 runs off 37 balls.

For Rwanda, Vumiliya Margueritte got 3 wickets, conceding 20 runs in 4 overs strongly supported by Josiane Nyirankundineza with 3 wickets, conceding 19 runs in 3.4 overs.

Vumiliya Margueritte was named player of the match.
