FC Barcelona has today announced that center-back Ronald Araujo has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2031.

The extension comes as a significant boost for both the player and the club.

The new contract, which extends his previous deal by an additional six years, reflects the club’s trust in Araujo’s abilities and his potential for further growth.

With Barcelona aiming to reclaim its status as a dominant force in both La Liga and European competitions, securing Araujo’s services was seen as a top priority.

Araujo, born 7 March 1999 joined FC Barcelona in the summer of 2018 from Boston River, Montevideo, starting with Barça B, but already with the idea of advancing him into the senior side.

He made his official debut on 6 October 2019 in a game at home to Sevilla, and was incorporated as a full-time member of the squad from the 2020/21 season.

As the 2024-2025 season progresses, Araujo will be looking to solidify his status as one of the top defenders in the game.

With the new contract in place, he can focus on his development and continue to contribute to Barcelona’s ambitions on the pitch.

He has amassed 154 appearances for the first team, scoring eight goals and six assists, which is an excellent record for a defender.

His titles included a Liga and a Copa del Rey, while this season he has been promoted to second captain.
