Congolese striker Fiston Mayele scored a late equalizer for Pyramids in their 1-1 draw with APR FC of Rwanda in the second preliminary round of the first leg of the CAF Champions on Saturday.
Mayele who is noted for scoring goals rose to the occasion to score a brilliant header in the 83rd minute to draw level for Pyramids at the Amahoro Stadium.
The draw in the first leg has put Pyramids in the driving seat especially going into the second leg with a point and an away goal.
APR FC has a huge task in Cairo for the return leg which is scheduled for September 21, 2024, and must prove their worth by winning Pyramids if they are to progress to the group stage.
Mayele, a pivotal figure for the club has an eye for goal and will be hoping to put smiles on the faces of the home fans in the return leg.
He finished the 2023-2024 Egyptian Premier League season as second top scorer with 17 goals to his credit.
Before joining Pyramids FC, he scored 11 goals and provided 3 assists in 17 matches of the CAF Champions League.
The striker also contributed to 18 goals and 6 assists in 31 matches of the CAF Confederation Cup, making him the top scorer of the Confederation Cup in 2022.
