Kylian Mbappe yet to make decision on Real Madrid transfer

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has confirmed he is yet to make a decision on his future at the club, with Real Madrid still keen on his signature.

Mbappe has entered the final six months of his contract at Parc des Princes and is therefore free to discuss a contract with any overseas clubs, as was the case in 2022 when it seemed certain he would join Madrid.

Having seen Mbappe sign a shocking extension that summer, reports suggest Madrid have set the Frenchman a deadline of mid-January this time around, challenging him to commit to a move immediately or wave goodbye to a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Asked whether he has already decided on his future, Mbappe told reporters on Wednesday: “No, to start with I’m very motivated by this year. It’s very important. We have titles to win and we have already won one.

“I haven’t made my decision yet. I haven’t made a choice. With the agreement I had with the president in the summer, my decision is not important as we managed to protect all the parties and preserved the serenity of the club for the challenges to come, which is the most important. So we will say that it [the decision] is secondary.”

90min understands Mbappe agreed to forego a loyalty bonus worth €80m (£69m) this season, ensuring PSG will retain a significant sum of money if he does ultimately leave on a free transfer.

Mbappe was then asked specifically about Madrid’s deadline and whether he could wait until the last minute to make a decision on his future once again.

“I don’t know,” he confessed. “It was at the end of May in 2022 because I didn’t know until May.

“If I know what I want to do, why wait? It would make no sense but like I have said, the most important are the titles. We have won one already and we are determined to win more. My personal situation, inside the club, nobody talks about it, it doesn’t interest much.”

Madrid are wary of stumbling into another prolonged battle for Mbappe’s signature amid concerns over such a saga’s impact on their other transfer business.

A new left-back, namely Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich, is high on Carlo Ancelotti’s wish list, while a new centre-back may also be of interest to the La Liga leaders.
