Manchester United: Ten Hag responds to Mason Greenwood questions after Club statement

Erik ten Hag refused to offer up an opinion on Manchester United’s decision to part ways with striker Mason Greenwood.

United confirmed earlier this week that Greenwood, who saw charges of rape and assault against him dropped in February 2023, would not return to the club and would instead continue his career away from Old Trafford.

During pre-season, Ten Hag revealed he had offered his opinion on how United should move forward with the situation but he declined to elaborate on his feelings during Friday’s press conference.

“Look, we are not where we want to be with our team, I have a lot of work and a lot of focus on my team, so I focus on the players who are available,” Ten Hag said.

“I only have statements about our performance, our squad, where we have to improve. Because it’s clear, we have to improve. I have to put every effort in to get the team to perform.”

Pressed for an opinion on the reaction of fans to the news, Ten Hag added: “I focus on the current squad and the players available. Once again, what Manchester United fans expect is a winning Manchester United and I’m responsible for that and I have to put all my effort and all my focus and make us play better than we do now.”

90min understands that a number of clubs reached out to United to discuss a potential move for Greenwood in the aftermath of the club’s decision.

Serie A side Roma were among those to make contact but they have since turned their attention to Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku.
