Yesterday, Economic Inclusion of Refugees and Host Communities (ECOREF) in collaboration with Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle trough GIZ/Gopa held the 1st job fair in Gisagara District aimed to connect job seekers with potential employers.
This event brought together over 200 TVET graduates and over 30 enterprises and companies.
More than 200 Youths from Gisagara District in Southern Province, have been linked with employers in the District including Industries, Banks and business owners for the purpose of learn to be innovative in order to fight poverty.
This Project aims to develop the Youth of Refugees and those outside the Camps.
The participants are from the Mugombwa Refugees Camp and other Youths from 13 Sectors of Gisagara District.
They learnt various Short Courses with in Six-Month, including; Culinary arts, Carpentry, Construction, Mecanic-Automobile, Electricity, Prombing, Hair Dressing, Sewing, Welding, Painting and Food & Beverages.
These short courses are held at IPRC-Huye and other various TVET’s.
Ndindiriyimana Aime Jean Claude from Musha Sector who learnt Electricity at TVET Rwabuye, says that being taught a career will further develop him.
“If we get a job, it will help us to continue to develop and we will reach the point where we can create jobs and give them to others”, He added
Musanabera Yvette from the Mugomba Refugees Camp says that if she get a job, she will get rich faster.
“We came to meet people who offer jobs to us, there are many opportunities, we showed the skills we have, there are many people who would like to work”, She added
The organizers of this event say that it aims to help Young people to develop themselves through Entrepreneurship, finding Job opportunities in the Labor Market..
Habineza Jean Paul, The Vice Mayor of Gisagara District in charge of Economic Development, said that they talked to all partners in the District and found out that there is a shortage of workers.
Then there was a search for how to connect the unemployed with the employers to discuss whether they find workers elsewhere.
“Our Country has set the goal of eradicating the problem of unemployment found in the Government’s Seven-Year plan because it includes the pillar of Job creation. We decided to have a round table for Employers and Job Seekers.”
“It is important that Rwandan Youth and Refugees are taught trades and helped to find jobs. It shows that our Country lives together, it does not treat Refugees as people who cause a problem and we see them as a solution”, He added
This project, started in 2019, operates in the Districts where the Refugee Camps are located, namely “Nyamagabe (Kigeme Refugees Camp), Gisagara (Mugombwa Refugees Camp), Kirehe (Mahama Refugees Camp) and Gicumbi (Gihembe Refugees Camp) before it has closed.
