On this Friday 8th September 2023, in collaboration with the International Swimming Federation ‘World Aquatics’, the German Olympic Sports Confederation and the Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC) the Rwanda Swimming Federation held a 12 days training on “Drowning & Prevention”, with the aim of increasing the knowledge on how to protect athletes from water accidents.
This training was attended by 25 coaches from 10 Clubs makes up Rwanda Swimming Federation and was given by ‘Sven Spannkrebs’, from the German Olympic Sports Confederation (Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund).
The Coaches are from; Les Dauphins Swimming Club, Rubavu Swimming Club, Aquawave Swimming Club, Cercle Sportif de Kigali SC, Mako Sharks Swimming Club, Gisenyi Beach Boys Swimming Club, Rwamagana Canoe & Aquatic Sports Swimming Club, Cercle Sportif de Karongi Swimming Club, Rwesero Swimming Club and Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle Swimming Club.
This training is being held at the Olympic Hotel, Kimironko, Kigali City, the participants are requested to be professional and focus on what they will be taught.
Talking about to this training, Girimbabazi Rugabira Pamela, The Rwanda Swimming Federation president said that:”This training is aimed to increase the knowledge of the Coaches especially on Drowning and Prevention methodes”.
“Sports will not improve if the players and coaches, are not given training to sharpen them”.
“In particular, it is to help the coaches to know how to manage the game of swimming in their teams instead of doing it unprofessionally”.
“In this training, it is planned that Mr Sven Spannkrebs will visit them in their teams, in order to see the work they are doing in different categories”.
She concluded by saying: “We hope that these 12 days will help the participants of this training to promote the game of Swimming in Rwanda, train it and help those who play it professionally and promote it to young people in particular”.
Uwiduhaye Jean d’Amour, the coach of the Rwesero Swimming Club who participated in this training, said that:”I will use this training to prevent the players from drowning, as well as to provide them with immediate help in case they happen.”
He added:”I will use it to teach young people how to play Swimming professionally and support them”.
“Especially, I will focus on children who show talent in this game.”
