Rwanda: International Olympafrica Foundation together with NEVOBO condacted a five-day workshop aimed to help in the development of girls’ Volleyball

From 28th July to 1st August 2023, a five days Coaches Course of Volleyball For Life which is organized by Dutch Volleyball Federation (Nevobo) and International Olympafrica Foundation, in collaboration of Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee branch of Nyanza Olympafrica held i Nyanza District, Southern part of the Country.

Volleyball4Life is an educational programme of Dutch Volleyball Federation (NEVOBO) focussing on girls’ empowerment through a grassroots volleyball programme, with goal of teaching coaches on how to training children volleyball and again inspire girls how to stand up for themselves and make their own decisions.

In this training, Madame Ndiate Sall one of Program manager of International Olympafrica Foundation is representing the Foundation also following how training is conducted to 18 people were trained to become Coaches, 3 of them are from Lesotho, Mozambique and Tanzania (Directors of Olympafrica Centers), and 15 others are local.

Two Volleyball experts, Peter Van Tarell and Dorien Tenhaeff from Holland Volleyball Federation are the ones training coaches and national coach of Volleyball Mana Jean Paul who previously has attended training of Volleyball4Life in SenegaL.

Mana is also being trained to become instructor while being facilitator in training.

The trainers are accompanied by Vedrana Naletoski who is working on program impact measuring tools, together with Bas de Kloet and Kim de Kloet who are video and photographer of Nevobo.

Eighteen children are participating in this training whereby afternoon coaches have to practice with them what they learnt with instructors in the morning.

  • What is Volleyball4Life?

The Volleyball4Life programme focuses on the empowerment of girls, with the ultimate aim that 12 to 18 year-old girls that take part in the programme get tools and skills to assert themselves and make their own decisions in life. 

  • How it started 

The main goal of Nevobo, the Dutch Volleyball Federation, is to develop volleyball in the Netherlands. At the same time, they also feel a sense of responsibility for the development of volleyball in other countries, and they work towards providing volleyball activities around the World through Volleyball4Life (V4L) programme.

  • Where the program has been implemented?

In 2019 Volleyball4Life started in Nepal, where it’s now implemented in 13 communities.

In 2020 the programme has also started in Senegal, as part of the World2Win project.

Their aim is to create impact in areas where it is needed the most. 

They are open minded for cooperation in other countries, as long as there are opportunities for long-term and sustainable implementation and matches our approach. 

Rwanda is the third country to have Volleyball4Life as the program has been implemented in Nepal for 1st time in 2019, and then in Senegal in 2020.

At closing participants will be awarded to become Volleyball4Life Coachers.
